Collector Testimonials

As an avid collector of Robert’s work, I was very honored when asked to write the foreword to this book “Asian Dreams.” I recall the first time I saw this unique photographic collection, I was so moved by the work that I wanted more people to be able to experience it. I asked Robert if he would be interested in having a solo show at The Forbes Gallery at the magazine’s headquarters in New York. This led to two very successful solo shows at our gallery on Fifth Avenue.
The Forbes family has a long tradition of supporting artists through their personal collections and exhibitions at the Forbes Magazine Gallery, including works by Eliot Porter, Ernst Haas, and most notably Irving Penn. Malcolm Forbes, my grandfather, wrote this about the art of photography, “You’re recording a moment for posterity and time and history. You’re freeze framing a small part of the absolute wonder of life!” It is in this rich family tradition that I present this work.
I have never traveled to these parts of Asia, but have always been curious about that part of the world. This book was an exciting way for me to get a glimpse into these mysterious and unfamiliar places. Robert’s ability to capture the spirit of his travels and experiences, by weaving evocative personal anecdotes and poignant regional poetry, makes the book more than a just a coffee table book
Not only are the photos exquisite but also their presentation is very original. His use of Sepia and colored tones, along with unstructured borders transcend space and time. The book takes you through Cambodia, Laos, Bali, Myanmar, Nepal, Vietnam, and India Countries with vastly different cultures and history. As an uninformed Westerner, seeing these places through Robert’s lens brought me along with him on his incredible journey.
So I invite you to experience Robert’s remarkable photographs and personal journal in “Asian Dreams”. I hope that you enjoy it as much as I have and get a sense of someone that is a true artist, adventurer, sociologist and cultural humanitarian.

Robert Curran is an incredibly talented photographer with a unique eye. He stunningly captures the essence of a beautiful woman just as he discovers the nature of a wild animal in its habitat. I personally collect his work and own 10 pieces.

Curran is like a religion...You worship his Art.

As a 20-year collector of art, sculpture, and increasingly, the digital melding of the human body, I find Robert’s work to be refreshingly authentic, even brave.  He is the hero photographer who shares wild recipes with Amazonian Indians and Peruvian Warriors.  He lives their experiences before he humbly requests to document the experiences. And he is usually the first to discover some long lost art form he finds in the wilds of the mountains, or even, in post-conflict war zones.

His work is mystical and so very real.  It brings you back in time to experience the subject, which is intense.  For my mother’s 70th birthday, I bought a 1990 piece titled ‘Little Buddha.’  It is so magnificent that we hung it on the main floor of our New York City townhouse.  There are many artists, but very few with exceptional gifts like Robert Curran.

We own two Robert Curran photographs and consider them amongst our favorite pieces of art.

It doesn’t matter if Robert is working in Miami or Mumbai, he captures the essence of his subjects however he finds them: peaceful, playful, gritty or glamorous. He’ll immerse you into exotic cultures and ignite your imagination.

His gifted vision and precise technique render stunning images that are quite simply hypnotic.
